Neelima's Story
I came from India to Milton Keynes after my marriage in November 2004.
Initially I was looking for administration jobs, as I had worked in India.
I attended the Careers Fair exhibition in Middleton Hall, Milton Keynes which was conducted in December 2004.
I registered myself with Volunteer Connection and came to know about MK Women and Work Group.
I started volunteering for Women & Work in May 2005 and simultaneously I have attended a couple of courses with Women & Work.
I have expanded my knowledge and gained many skills.
They also made me realise that I have gained skills from work, at home and in my private life.
I enjoyed both the courses.
I had a goal that I wanted to start up a business in the long term.
Women and Work gave me information about Business Link - Business Start Up.
I contacted them in July 2005, and they helped me in giving all the materials and information on how to proceed further.
My husband and family members also encouraged me a lot to start a business.
Women & Work helped me increase my confidence
and get all the information I needed at the time I needed it,
so I was finally able to make my decision in August 2005
and start a small retail business from home.
My retail business consists of types of rice and cereals, types of pickles,
ready-made powders like masala's and other items.
It is a great feeling and I am happy that my business is going on fine.
I want to heartfully appreciate all the members of Women And Work Group
who have given me huge support.
