Sabah's Story
Hi
My name is Sabah and I'm originally from Somalia.
The barriers that I faced and led me to Women & Work were due to my lack of 'IT Skills'. I only knew the basics in how to operate a computer, but I was keen to learn more. That's when I came across a friend who introduced me to Women & Work.
Since I've been out of work for almost eight years now due to raising three children of my own, and a cousin who is disabled, I never really had time to develop my personal skills. Although previously, I took a book-keeping course at Milton Keynes college, which is a lot different environment compared to Women & Work.
At Women & Work I did an IT Course and an Effective Communication with Children course, and my son also had an opportunity to participate on a course.
Also, I did the Interpersonal Skills Course which was a brilliant course and it really changed the way I communicate, especially with my children.
Women & Work is the great place for learning and socialising, with a great atmosphere. I've made a lot of friends and it has given me confidence. I received a lot of support and help from the staff and individuals.
The knowledge I gained from here will enable me to develop a very good relationship with my children and with others too.
